We had two more glorious days in Florence. On Monday morning we saw Santa Croce, the most important Franciscan church in Florence and also where Michelangelo and Galileo are buried! It had the famous Pazzi Chapel designed by Brunelleschi, Cimabue's crucifix (though highly damaged by a massive flood in the 1960s) and some chapels frescoed by Giotto! This was our last morning with Sally and we were all sad to see her go home :(
It rained pretty hard for most of the afternoon but Alex and I managed to visit both Santa Maria Novella and the Brancacci Chapel, two other very significant spaces for Renaissance art particularly because of their works by Masaccio.
We ate some delicious gelato at Perche no! (I had the chocolate with a specialty flavor called honey and sesame seed and Alex had Chocolate and rose) as well as, slightly randomly, a really good german steak and fries in an indoor market we stumbled upon. In the evening was a group dinner at the hotel which was fun, though not my favorite food so far.
The next day was a free day, so Alex and I made it our mission to eat really delicious food all day. First we found (with the internet's help) a delicious and tucked away pasta place where three little old ladies cook every day for cheap and it was WONDERFUL. Then we had some fantabulous cannolis from across the Arno at a place called the Golden Open View Bar.
After that it was time to journal again, but our hotel has a beautiful terrace where I could sit in the tower-like area that overlooked that rooftops while I worked :) then Emily, Alex and I went back to Gusta pizza yet again--it's the best place in town!
